Believe it or not: Right now, there are only 3 cars for sale in the US that are actually built/assembled in China. It was only a few years ago that this number was zero. They are the Buick Envision, Lincoln Nautilus, and the Polestar 2. The Volvo ex30 will be the fourth.

I think we’ll see this number rise quite a bit over the next few years, especially with Volvo/Polestar models (having a Chinese parent company), but also GM, who has always had a strong presence in China in several ways. However, the biggest increase may be from actual Chinese car companies/brands/models that are currently looking to see if they are going to break into the US market.

  3. Not an expert, but I bet this has a lot to do with the limited choice in the US.

“In 2018, Trump imposed, and Biden has since continued, a special 25 percent tax on Chinese-made autos, on top of the ordinary 2.5 percent tax on foreign-made cars.”
