The Last One Standing (American sedan, that is) – Chevy Malibu: Despite decent and steadily rising sales numbers, do you think Chevy will decide to get rid of the Malibu soon?

As long as rental car companies offer a “Mid-size car” the Malibu will have a home.

With the exit of the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, the Malibu is the sole survivor of American sedans. Sales have jumped in the last 2 years. Chevy has cut trims, engines, and other options, leaving only a well-reviewed Turbo I4 1.5. Will Chevy keep it going?

  3. Bracing for the downvotes, but the Tesla Model S and Model 3 are American sedans.

    What about:
    Cadillac CT4 and CT5
Tesla model 3 (model S is really a hatchback)
    Lucid Air

Thank you all for the clarifications/additions. Very correct, the 2 Cadillac sedans and the 2 Tesla sedans. I guess that would leave the Malibu as “only Big 3 sedan from a mainstream/non-luxury brand” … or “only ICE American non-luxury sedan” and even both of those are only true until 2025, when the new Charger will offer 4-door, and ICE options.

Wish Chevy made some serious styling updates, stuff akin to Euro brands.

Honestly would love to see a new generation of this with Chevy’s latest tech and styling. The upcoming Traverse and Equinox look great and the Trax was a styling hit, all of which being much more low and planted compared to their predecessors. And I hate to say it but GMs latest android automotive based system is the most user friendly infotainment I’ve used of any modern car.

  8. I don’t understand killing entire car line-ups. Simplify them. Sure, that makes sense. You don’t need a 4 engine choices spread between 16 trims, but no cars seems like just handing customers to everyone else who’s still making cars. It’s on the same platform and you’re still out selling some competitors. Seems like an odd choice to lose sales and market.
