    >Of course, part of the reason EV prices are plunging is that consumers are not buying them as fast as dealers and automakers expected. As the industry moves beyond enthusiastic early adopters, it now faces car buyers who are concerned about charging infrastructure and high upfront costs.
    >
    >So car dealerships are discounting electric cars on their lots. Average EV prices dropped $2,000 last month. “We’re going to continue to see price cuts or discounts just because there’s inventory and [dealers are] really trying to get these sold,” said Stephanie Valdez Streaty, director of Industry Insights at Cox Automotive.
    >
    >That’s good news for Americans in the market for a new car who might be considering going electric. “Price is always one of the top barriers for adoption, so I think getting down to price parity is key,” she said.

Transaction prices are not a good metric to judge price parity because they are **incredibly** specific / subjective based on location and timing. Person A in big city California might get a $4,000 discount on one of many inventory Kia EV6s, while Person B buying from Joe Stealership’s hometown Kia dealer in their small rural town that only has the one EV6 on the lot might not get incentives even close to that.

When comparing using MSRPs, we are not yet close to parity, especially when comparing similarly-equipped ICEs and EVs from the same brand.

EV prices are still quite high if you want something in the middle end. If we still had the Bolt I would say it’s competitive but right now its a no.

I don’t count the Leaf because the Leaf still uses Chademo

Long term, prices for EVs should be lower than prices for ICE vehicles. The economics for batteries will continue to improve and the costs will continue to decline as economy of scale improves. EVs are mechanically much simpler and therefore will be cheaper to produce. Any new technology goes through pretty wild price swings. This is normal.

Just got an EQS580 for $700/month. The car didn’t blow me away but the deal did. Wish I went for a Lucid Air GT instead, but even with their rebates it’s an extra 300-400/month though.

As cheap ? You could have said: cost the same or something like that….

“Almost as cheap as” are there cheap new ICEs anymore?

  8. Radiobamboo

They already are cheaper when you factor in maintenance costs over the years of ownership.

  9. As a Leaf, owner I smile. Some of these cars are now ten years or older. Nissan has a 5 year 100Km standard warranty. Great round around town car.

  10. I wanted an EV in 2021. I even switched from a truck. There was alot of EV trade offs involves back then for me. Definitely Charging (a renter), def cost, functionality, forms available to buy…
I look forward to day of alot (even more ) EV products and prices/ shapes this revolution is supposed to bring. However right now it all comes across as way way way too much blathering/ talking / waiting on EVs incessantly in the press/govt /discourse. Deliver the dam products already lol.

settled for a used gen2 Volt 2019 with a better AC charger, and will replace it by end if decade maybe so well see manufacturers lol

  11. How’s the financing on EVs these days?

I can put down a couple grand on a gas powered car and payments are $300-400 per month. Are EVs down to this range yet?

All new cars are overpriced today. It basically makes no sense to buy new when you can buy used with 50k miles on it for half of the price

ICE cars vary in price based on power. To compare prices you have to compare prices of ICE cars with the same acceleration as EV cars.

Make ev 100 dollars cheaper than a ice and the head of chevron himself would be driving one

Are we comparing apples to apples, like a mid-sized crossover SUV to a mid-sized crossover SUV?
