I watched an episode of the Streetalpha Podcast on Youtube that feature Type R Frankie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3WjzIawFEs). In this episode, Frankie mentioned that it’s only illegal to import a car that doesn’t adhere to the 25 year import rule. If you are able to get the car to the United States, you are able to get a title for it and register it. At least that is how he explained how he got his Honda Civic EK9 Type R.
Has anyone had or know anyone that had experience with this?

If I’m not mistaken, **and I may very well be**, I believe there is an exception (in my own words) stating once the first year of a vehicle generation is 25 years old, that entire generation may be imported.
So for example, in 2024, any 1999-2005 Rover 25 may be imported since the 2005 is identical to the 1999. Or 1999 – 2004 Fiat Punto. Maybe even the 1999 – 2012 Citroen Xsara Picasso
At first blush this sounds like some kind of car version of SovCit doctrine. Anyone wanting to go down this rabbithole should be ready to spend a lot of time appealing governmental entities and prepare to lose the car to customs. Even if you manage to land it initially, the authorities can circle back. Look at the MotoRex scandal.

You’re saying I can drive a new Jimny up from Mexico and register it?
