Minor scratch but she claims $5k? Does it make sense? Her car is the darker one, mine is the grey one.

Collision happened between me and a lady, I am not sure who’s at fault but she is saying the damage of her car was quoted 5k. I would be happy to pay if it was my fault and if the cost of damage is right but is she taking advantage of this? Am I getting scammed or it really is that expensive to repair?

Context: we were in a street with two right turn lanes, I was on the outer/left right turn lane, she was on the inner/right right turn lane and the collision happened at the intersection as we were both right turning. It could be me turning too much but it could also be her turning too little and went into my lane.

My right front passenger door is scratch and I see her front left car head scratch(which made sense to me) but I am assuming she also quoted damage to her doors and back as well(it does not make sense to me, there are a bunch of items on the list that sounded like areas that I could not have damaged unless I am not reading it right)

We are going through insurance, what do you guys suggest me to do? I feel like she is taking advantage of this because I am a inexperienced kid

Just let your insurance handle it. That’s why you pay them.

And drive more carefully next time.

That’s a 600$ job at most, where do you live?

Take her to Judge Judy, she’ll smack the number outta her mind.

It’s that expensive for a few reasons.

    1) body shops know insurance is involved so they make estimates higher.

2)some body shops repair and some replace. It’s much more common to finds shops that replace.

    3) the damage is expensive because you damaged several panels and pieces of trim. Repairing or replacing several panels will cost more for that.

Also, because insurance companies… you will probably pay that wreck back with higher insurance premiums next year. Warm regards!

Going off of what you said, i’d tell this person to fuck right off. That’s an insane quote, and there’s absolutely 0 chance they’d actually put that money into repairing a 10 year old CRV, with bald tires, faded plastics, gouged door cups, etc. I’m not exactly sure how this is handled private party, but i’d just offer her blue book for a (non crashed) CRV, and take it. It’s likely only a 12k-15k car depending on mileage.

What scratch… I only see a mark on the front bumper?

This is why you should get a dash cam. You won’t have to pay $5000 if you’re deemed at fault, your insurance will cover it. You’ll only need to pay your deductible. Maybe your deductible is $5000?

Talk to your insurance company. They will handle it. “She” is not staying it’s 5k to fix it’s the auto body shop who provided the quote.

    Don’t admit to any wrongdoing.

I suggest you let her file a claim with your insurance and let them figure it out

Honestly, that will rub off with wd40.

Not towards you but people need to realize that body and paint work is far from cheap for just half ass work and is ungodly expensive for quality work. If you can think you can do it, then go for it but expect absolute shit results. Matching faded paint and getting body panels to align properly after a car has been thru years of abuse is hell.
