CityEl: The Tiny Three-Wheeled Electric Car from Denmark

CityEl is a remarkable three-wheeled electric car that began life as the Mini-El in Denmark in 1987. Developed by El Trans A/S, it evolved through several manufacturers before production continued in Germany. Its tiny 280-kg body, central seating position, lifting roof and unusual three-wheel layout made it unlike conventional cars. The CityEl received increasingly powerful electric motors and different battery technologies, eventually reaching a 4.5-kW motor, 48-volt lithium iron phosphate battery and up to 120 km of range with lithium-ion technology. Discover the history and engineering of this unusual electric vehicle.
