An electric dirt bike has been seized by police in Pudsey amid ongoing concerns about the use of the vehicles across West Yorkshire.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Leeds West neighbourhood policing team said they seized the Sur-Ron bike on Friday, September 25, after it was being ridden in Pudsey by a male wearing a balaclava.

In a post on social media, the force said: “West Yorkshire Police – Leeds West have this evening seized a Sur-Ron in the Pudsey area ridden by a male with a balaclava.”

Bikes associated with criminality ‘across the country’

Police said the bikes have become increasingly associated with criminality and antisocial behaviour in communities across the country.

The post added: “These vehicles are being used for criminality and ASB across the country and, in addition, far too many riders are getting in collisions and sustaining significant injuries.”

The latest seizure comes after a number of similar incidents involving similar vehicles across the district in recent weeks.

Police forces nationwide have increasingly targeted illegally ridden electric motorcycles, including Sur-Ron bikes, which can often require registration, insurance and the correct licence to be used legally on public roads, depending on their specification.

West Yorkshire Police has repeatedly warned riders about the dangers of using the vehicles unlawfully, citing concerns around road safety, nuisance riding and criminal activity.

Anyone with information about antisocial behaviour or illegal vehicle use can report it to West Yorkshire Police via its website or by calling 101.
