MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A 64-year-old has died days after a crash involving a car and an electric bike in Columbia County.
Deputies were called to Washington Road at Hightower Drive in Martinez around 7:16 p.m. on Sept. 22 for a collision between a Toyota Camry and an electric bicycle, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say a Toyota Camry was heading east on Washington Road in the inside through lane. The electric bicycle, ridden by 64-year-old Sam Dees of Martinez, was also heading east in the right-turn lane, according to the report.
The crash report states Dees merged out of the right-turn lane into the outside eastbound lane and then into the path of the Camry as he made a left turn onto Hightower Drive.
The front of the bicycle hit the front passenger door of the car, throwing Dees onto the roadway.
Gold Cross EMS took Dees to Doctors Hospital with serious injuries.
On Sept. 24, the Columbia County Coroner’s Office notified investigators that Dees had died from his injuries, according to the crash report.
No other injuries were reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, no charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
