Can a GTi Badge Save a 7-Year-Old EV?
The GTi badge is back… but underneath all that red trim is a small car that first appeared in 2019. In the electric-car world, seven years is a very long time.
The new Peugeot E-208 GTi produces 281PS and 345Nm, reaches 62mph in 5.5 seconds and comes with a mechanical limited-slip differential, serious Alcon brakes and a chassis developed by Peugeot Sport. But can those changes genuinely make an older platform feel new again—or is the GTi badge doing more work than the engineering?
In this review, I explore the design, red-filled interior, performance, handling, ride, charging, range, rear-seat space and boot. I also compare it with the closely related Vauxhall Corsa GSE, the polished Alpine A290 and the newer Cupra Raval VZ.
At £33,495 after the current £1,500 Electric Car Grant, is this the electric hot hatch we have been waiting for?
Let me know what you think: proper GTi or old EV in disguise?
