Mountain Home, IDAHO (CBS2) — The city of Mountain Home is looking to adopt an ordinance that could regulate E-scooters and E-bicycles.
During a city council meeting last week, the Mayor and council members discussed whether electric vehicles should follow similar rules other road vehicles are legally required to follow.
Mountain Home Interim Chief of Police, Ty Larsen brought up the rising concerns of E-Bikes and E-Scooters in the city.
“The problems I’m seeing is people riding on the wrong side of the rode, they’re using the sidewalks when they should be operating it like a bike or a motorcycle,” Larsen said. He also added the importance of requiring helmets for those under the age of 18.
During the meeting, Council member Brendan McCarthy made a motion to move forward in reviewing and adopting an ordinance regulating electric vehicles based on similar verbiage to Boise’s and Garden City’s recently passed ordinances.
The council will review and vote on an ordinance in an upcoming council meeting.
