One of the Porsche Cayenne Electric’s most significant advancements when it debuted was its reported capability to charge wirelessly, something that would certainly make owning an EV far more convenient. And a few months after the SUV’s debut, the automaker has announced that inductive charging would finally be an option on the Cayenne Electric, bringing the feature from theoretical concept to garage-parked reality.
Along with wireless vehicle charging, the Cayenne will also receive an extensive list of Paint to Sample color options, as well as a little mechanized chivalry in the way of automatic-opening electric doors.

The newest convenience feature for the Porsche EV is wireless charging, but not for your phone or smart device. In addition to that rather common interior feature, the 2027 Cayenne Electric will also be able to charge itself automatically, thanks to a special pad that is permanently installed in the vehicle owner’s parking space. The wireless option also includes a dedicated inductive pad on the car itself, as well as the required hard- and software to make charging possible.
The Cayenne Electric’s surround-view camera will track the vehicle’s progress toward the inductive pad, and once the driver has positioned it properly, charging will start automatically (or on a timer in order to take advantage of off-peak electric rates). The Porsche EV charges at a commendable 11 kilowatts using the inductive charger, and the company claims 90 percent electrical efficiency, not far off the 92 or 93 percent of traditional 240-volt wired chargers.
The ground pad is water and weatherproof, meaning it can be installed in the garage, on the driveway, or in a dedicated parking space. It also includes a few safeguards that prevent overheating, including sensors that detect metallic debris on the pad or animals nearby the car.

The 2027 Porsche Cayenne Electric and its Cayenne Coupe sibling will also gain access to more than 90 additional color options through the automaker’s expansive (and expensive) Paint to Sample program. Combined with the 13 choices available in series production, that brings the total portfolio to 105 different colors. Paint to Sample includes options from Porsche’s history, such as the bright green Peridot Metallic first seen on the 2012 Cayman R sports car, as well as other automakers’ offerings, like Lamborghini’s Grigio Telesto Metallic and Audi’s Nogaro Blue.
PTS is $13,870 option from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, and when custom-ordered, it requires about three months of additional lead time. It may seem a little bit overpriced considering all you’re getting is a unique color, but the program usually ensures higher resale values – Porsche enthusiasts love Paint to Sample on their cars.

The 2027 Cayenne Electric will also feature a novelty that’s becoming popular among luxury automakers. Electric-closing, automatic doors will show up on the options list, adding specialized servos that glide open or closed in one seamless motion. Passengers can operate the electric doors using dedicated buttons, a special infotainment menu, via the physical door handles, or on the Porsche Digital Key phone app.
The company says that its automatic doors can sense proximity to objects or people, ceasing operation if it thinks it’ll ding the car next to you. The system also detects approaching vehicle traffic from behind, preventing passengers from stepping out into busy, dangerous traffic. Manual releases are also included, ensuring occupants can exit the vehicle in an emergency or if the 12-volt battery goes flat.
