Enthusiasts and tuning workshops have begun creating modified versions of the compact Fiat Topolino electric vehicle. In particular, Madness Auto Works upgraded the model’s suspension, software and interior, while businessman Lapo Elkann and designer Fabrizio Giugiaro presented two special Topolino variants, InsideEVs reports.
Upgrades by Madness Auto Works
The Fiat Topolino is a low-speed quadricycle. In the United States, the model is not approved for use on public roads because of its maximum speed of 19 mph. A software update is being prepared for American Topolinos that is expected to raise this figure to 25 mph.
The electric vehicle weighs 1,073 pounds, or approximately 487 kilograms. Madness Auto Works installed adjustable coilover suspension on the Topolino and updated the software of the vehicle control module. According to the publication, this made it possible to double the maximum speed. The vehicle also received a Momo steering wheel with a wooden rim, quilted leather seat upholstery and new wheels.

Top.J and Top.L versions
Lapo Elkann and Fabrizio Giugiaro, the son of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, developed two special projects based on the Topolino. The Top.J version turns the two-seat electric vehicle into a four-seat beach vehicle: the hard roof was replaced with a fabric canopy, and a bench for rear-facing passengers was installed at the back. This version also uses metal side bars.
The second variant, Top.L, is designed as an open roadster. It has no roof, body pillars or rear window, while the doors have been replaced with side elements similar to those used in the Fiat Topolino Dolce Vita version. In the published photographs, the Top.L is shown on a track with a driver wearing racing gear. The technical components of both Elkann and Giugiaro projects remained standard.
