A 200 km electric range on the XC60 is Volvo Cars’ argument that plug-in hybrids remain a viable bridge to full electrification

Volvo Cars has launched long-range plug-in hybrid variants of its XC60 and XC90 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) for European and American markets. The XC60 delivers up to 200 km of electric range on a single charge, while the XC90 provides up to 160 km, each exceeding 2.5 times the range of current plug-in hybrid variants.

The XC60 also gains a comprehensive exterior redesign: a new grille, bonnet, front wings and wheels alongside revised Thor’s Hammer Matrix LED headlights. Safety upgrades include automatic emergency steering and braking, a cyclist alert system and lane change assist, all supported by an expanded sensor suite.

“The XC60 is our best-selling model of all time, while the XC90 marked the beginning of our premium journey,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and Chief Executive of Volvo Cars. “Now, as long-range plug-in hybrids, they build on those legacies and, together with the all-electric EX60, give us our strongest-ever electrified offering in the mid-size SUV segment. This means a path to full electrification for every customer.”

Both models are also available as mild hybrids. The XC60 and XC90 will also receive regular over-the-air updates; order books opened on 15 September 2026 in selected markets, with production beginning later in the autumn.
