Volvo delivers class leading range! The brand just launched its first 2028 long range plug-in hybrids introducing new variants of the best-selling XC60 and XC90.
Both the XC60 and XC90 T8 AWD Long Range PHEVs have a 37.9 kWh battery up from 18.8 kWh battery. The XC60 has up to 126 km/78 miles of range and the XC90 up to 117 km/73 miles. That’s a big increase from 53 km/33 miles for the XC90 and 56 km/34 miles for the XC60 which is due to a new, larger capacity floor integrated battery and a more powerful electric motor.
They are powered by a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with a PHEV system and a combined 455 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque, standard AWD. The mild-hybrid gas models will continue to be sold alongside these new PHEVs.
The XC90 design carries forward there are no changes but the XC60 gets a refresh. The exterior receives a new design of the Thor’s Hammer Matrix LED headlamps, a new front including an updated grille, redesigned front bumper, hood, front wings and new wheels. The rear gets updates to the tailgate, LED headlamps and rear bumper with a stronger emphasis on the horizontal lines to give the vehicle a more confident stance.
The XC60 interior has a new dashboard and door panel design with wood decor, Cardamom ventilated Nappa leather upholstery and ambient lighting. The technology has been updated with a more integrated 11.2” touchscreen with Volvo’s latest infotainment system with Google Gemini and the next generation Google AI assistant. There’s plenty of advanced driver support including, a 360-camera with 3D view, updated radars, cameras and sensors. The XC60 combines advanced safety technologies to help prevent collisions. If a potential collision is detected, the cars can respond in real time, warning the driver or stepping in to help to avoid or reduce the impact.
This updated XC60 PHEV has a combined range of 950 km/590 miles and gets a combined 3Le/100 km/78 MPGe. The XC90 PHEV gets a combined range of 900 km/559 miles and 3.2Le/100 km/74 MPGe. With a level 2 charger both will charge from 0-100% in 5.7 hours.
