SOUTHEASTERN N.C. (WECT) – The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced its second round of awards for electric vehicle charging stations.
NCDOT awarded $14.4 million from the state’s share of the National Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Program to several businesses to install and operate a total of 14 stations.
“The number of electric vehicles registered in North Carolina continues to increase,” said NCDOT’s State Initiatives Manager Heather Hildebrandt. “By expanding our electric vehicle charging network, we’re making it easier for everyone to travel confidently across the state, while supporting a cleaner, more modern transportation economy.”
This round of awards includes $1,714,465 for a station on U.S. 74 located at 314 Washington St. in Whiteville. In round one, $991,000 was awarded for a station in the Clairmont Shopping Center in Leland.
