Its strongest monthly result came in April, when sales reached 5,730 units. The figure was 258 percent higher than the total recorded in April 2025.
Plug-in hybrids accounted for most of BYD’s volume during the first eight months of the year. The automaker sold 22,555 vehicles equipped with its DM-i technology, compared with 11,542 units during the same period in 2025. This translated to a 95 percent increase.
The Sealion 6 DM-i led BYD’s lineup with 7,759 units sold. It contributed 27 percent of the company’s total sales. The eMAX 9 DM-i followed with 2,512 units.
Demand also rose for the company’s fully electric models. Battery electric vehicle sales more than doubled from 2,720 units last year to 5,844 units in the January-to-August period. The eMAX 7 was BYD’s top-selling battery electric vehicle with 1,975 units. It accounted for 34 percent of the brand’s electric vehicle sales.
BYD Cars Philippines managing director Bob Palanca said the results indicate that more Filipino buyers now consider electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles among their choices. He cited practicality, reliability and lower ownership costs as factors behind customer demand.
BYD also reported worldwide new energy vehicle sales of 440,293 units in August 2026. Its global figure covers battery electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids.
