An 81-year-old man died after falling from his electric bicycle in Fremont last month, police announced Wednesday.
At 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, Fremont police responded to a report of an unresponsive bicyclist lying in the roadway on southbound Paseo Padre Parkway, roughly a quarter-mile north of Durham Road.
Shortly after, police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene and provided medical aid, before transporting the man to a hospital.
The man was pronounced dead on Aug. 28 and his name was not immediately available.
A preliminary investigation determined that the man’s fall did not involve another vehicle or pedestrian, police said.
The man died from injuries to his head and extremities suffered in the fall, police said. Physicians told investigators that he may have fallen from his bicycle while experiencing a medical emergency, but the Alameda County Coroner’s Office was not able to determine whether this was the case.
The man was wearing a helmet at the time of his fall, police said.
