Denza is about to make its powerful Z9 GT EV more accessible with a new tri-motor e3 variant. Set to be revealed/announced on Sept 9, the new model will use the same 850 kW (1140 hp) powertrain already available in the range, but with some expensive equipment removed to keep the price down.

The new Z9 GT e3 is expected to cost around 329,800 to 339,800 yuan ($49,100-$50,600), sitting below the 369,800-yuan ($55,100) e3 Performance.

Importantly, buyers won’t be giving up any power. The tri-motor all-wheel-drive setup produces 1,140 hp and 1,210 Nm (892 lb ft), using a 230 kW motor at the front and two 310 kW permanent-magnet motors at the rear.

The savings come mainly from the equipment list. The new variant is expected to replace the e3 Performance’s carbon-ceramic brakes with ventilated cast-iron discs, while features such as dual active-compressor refrigerators and motorised rear seats with pneumatic massage are likely to be dropped.

In other words, Denza is not making the Z9 GT slower. It is simply stripping away some luxury hardware to offer the same electric powertrain at a lower price.
