Hyundai Mobis’ newly built Nováky plant in Slovakia.
Hyundai Mobis, the main in-house component manufacturer of South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor Group, announced that it has begun mass production of power electric (PE) systems at its newly built plant in Nováky, Slovakia, as the company steps up its expansion in Europe’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) supply chain.
Hyundai Mobis describes PE systems as integrated electric powertrain units comprising an electric motor, an inverter that converts electrical current, and a reduction gear. The company already produces battery system assemblies (BSAs) in Europe, at plants in the Czech Republic and Spain. The launch of local PE system production in Europe will help the company deepen its partnerships with global automakers in the region, as they continue to transition to electrified vehicles.

Hyundai Mobis has invested KRW 280 billion (US$ 206 million) in the Nováky plant, which has a floor space of 8,500 sq m and a production capacity of 280,000 PE systems per year. It comprises production lines for stators, a core component of electric motors, inverters, and other components. The systems will be supplied to Hyundai and Kia vehicle assembly plants in the region, as well as to other global customers.
Speaking at the plant’s opening event, Hyundai Mobis’ president, Lee Gyu Suk, said: “To realise Hyundai Mobis’ future vision, we will continue to invest and devote our efforts to establishing the Nováky PE system plant as a key electrification hub in Europe. Looking ahead, strategic models from global automakers equipped with Hyundai Mobis PE systems will lead the European electrification market.”
Hyundai Mobis noted that it now produces BSAs and PE systems at strategic locations in major regional markets, including in Ulsan, Daegu, Chungju, and Pyeongtaek in South Korea, as well as in the US, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Spain, and Indonesia. The Slovakian plant is close to key global automakers including Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Volvo, as well as Kia.
