Wawa is planning to grow its electric vehicle network with the addition of eight Wawa-branded chargers to be installed this year in Pennsylvania. Wawa is partnering with Electrify America on the project.
Two of the eight will be in Delaware County.
The convenience chain has a network of 280 EV chargers across its 14-state footprint, including at 37 Pennsylvania stores. Those chargers are Tesla branded. Wawa has been growing its EV charging network since 2017, the company said in a release.
“This move to testing Wawa-branded chargers demonstrates our ongoing commitment to meeting our customers’ fueling needs — whether they require electric charging or traditional liquid fuels,” Rich Makin, Wawa senior vice president and chief fuel and development officer, said in a statement. “By owning Wawa-branded chargers, we are always striving to deliver a more seamless, reliable and consistent experience and this allows us to provide more options throughout 14 states for our customers.”
The eight chargers will be at the following stores:
• 8240 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby, Delaware County.
• 1242 W. Baltimore Pike, Media, Delaware County.
• 1600 Egypt Road, Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County.
• 413 Lancaster Ave. Reading, Berks County.
• 5900 Bristol Pike, Bristol.
• 7572 Schantz Road, Allentown.
• 1960 John Fries Highway, Quakertown.
• 164 Maynard St. Williamsport.
A spokeswoman for Wawa said the chargers at the Upper Darby, Bristol, and Quakertown locations are open to the public. She did not have an update on when the chargers at the other locations will be installed.

The Wawa Branded Chargers
The chargers at the stores in Upper Darby, Upper Providence, Media, Williamsport and Reading are capable of speeds up to 400 kilowatts and will offer CCS and NACS connectors, according to the release. The chargers at the stores in Bristol, Allentown and Quakertown are capable of speeds up to 350 kW and will offer CCS connectors, according to the release.
CCS — Combined Charging System — and NACS — North American Charging Standard — are the two primary EV charging connector types used in North America, Wawa said in an emailed response.
“By offering both connector types, Wawa-branded chargers will be compatible with the vast majority of electric vehicles on the road today,” Wawa stated in its response.
Electrify America is investing more than $2 billion in Zero-Emission Vehicle infrastructure and access. Its Hyper-Fast network operates in 47 states and the District of Columbia, according to the release.
