Boca Raton, FL — August 20, 2026 — A 30-year-old Plantation man was seriously injured Wednesday evening after riding an electric bicycle off a sidewalk and crashing into the side of an SUV at a North Palm Beach intersection, according to reports released by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m. on August 19, 2026, at the intersection of Palmetto Road and U.S. Highway 1.

According to the crash narrative compiled by Investigator Stephan, M. V. was operating a Rad Power Bikes Rad Rover Plus e-bike southbound along the east sidewalk of U.S. 1 as he approached Palmetto Road. At the same time, a 2024 Ford SUV, driven by 70-year-old V. S. of Lake Park, was traveling eastbound on Palmetto Road and crossing through the intersection under a green traffic signal.

Investigators reported that M. V. improperly rode off the sidewalk and entered the eastbound lane of Palmetto Road, colliding directly into the driver’s side door of the Ford SUV. The impact caused the e-bike to overturn, throwing M. V. onto the roadway.

M. V., who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, sustained serious head injuries. Emergency medical personnel transported both drivers to local hospitals for medical treatment, with V. S. sustaining minor injuries.

Logs indicate that V. S. was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol or drugs are not suspected factors in the incident. Next of kin has been notified.

The collision remains under active investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Vehicle Homicide Investigation unit under Case #26-086994.
