The Porsche Taycan could reportedly be headed for the exit by the time the decade is out. According to German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche, the automaker plans to end Taycan production by the year 2030, rather than move the model’s assembly from Zuffenhausen to Leipzig.
Reuters is also reporting the story, but it attributes the claim to WirtschaftsWoche’s sources, rather than presenting it as independently confirmed. Reuters did ask Porsche about the report, but spokesperson declined to comment directly, instead pointinh to CEO Michael Leiters’s July interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, where he said there were “no plans to discontinue the Taycan in the short term.”

That wording leaves plenty of room between “not in the short term” and 2030. The report also says Porsche has abandoned its earlier plan to transfer Taycan production to Leipzig, which would be a meaningful change; the Taycan is currently built in Zuffenhausen on a dedicated EV line, while Leipzig builds the Macan and Panamera.
While sales have not been ideal for the electric car—Porsche produced 11,510 Taycans in 2025, down from 21,302 a year earlier, according to its annual report—none of this proves that the Taycan is actually going to die. Still, this rumor would fit with the ways Porsche has changed over the past year, as the company’s operating profit cratered from €5.64 billion ($6.62 billion) in 2024 to €413million ($485 million).

The automaker has since delayed or shifted parts of its EV plan, recommitted to combustion and hybrid models, pared back battery ambitions, and begun trimming product complexity. Leiters has specifically said Porsche would cut Taycan variants rather than kill the entire model line immediately.
Axing the Taycan would be a major symbolic reversal for the brand that made it Porsche’s first dedicated EV. But if the numbers never support a fresh generation or a Leipzig move, symbols probably won’t win the argument.
