An elderly woman has been caught allegedly “keying” a Tesla parked next to her at a train station, with the owner discovering the act on the car’s in-built camera.
Lindsey Hay, 49, told Yahoo News she was “completely shocked” by the woman’s alleged actions at Petrie train station in Queensland’s Moreton Bay area over the weekend.
“I noticed the damage accidentally the following day when I looked at my camera footage,” she said. “I was completely shocked by her actions.”

The footage seen by Yahoo News appears to show how the incident unfolded. The elderly woman is seen walking past the Tesla parked next to what is believed to be to her own car.
Suddenly, she stops and makes her way between the two vehicles appearing to look at something towards the rear of her own car.
With keys in hand, she reaches back and appears to scrape the side of the Tesla Model Y.

“Crazy! Luckily, there isn’t a huge amount of damage from the keying incident, but I am pretty sure she grazed my car when pulling out of the car park,” Lindsey said.
The Tesla owner said she “didn’t think this would ever happened to me”. Yahoo has reported several similar incidents previously.
The woman is unknown to Lindsey who said she “had not encountered her previously”.
“She didn’t do a very good job at keying my car, thank goodness,” she said.
“It’s quite minor, but she has taken paint from the bumper. I have no idea about the damage cost,” she added.

The 49-year-old filed a police report but said nothing has come from it yet. Yahoo News contacted Queensland police about the incident.
After sharing the footage online, Lindsey said “quite a few people” recognised the woman, which is helpful as she failed to clearly see her number plate.
“I also have video footage of her driving at an awkward angle toward my car,” she said.

It’s not the first time Tesla cars have been targeted.
In 2024, an elderly man appeared to attack a Tesla with a key in the affluent Sydney suburb of Rose Bay.
In the same year, a 70-year-old man and his wife pleaded guilty to charges of wilful damage after keying a Tesla car at a Brisbane shopping centre.
The court was told Raymond Edwards also keyed a white BMW parked next to the Tesla. They said it was in response to being cut off by a driver and the couple were ordered to pay almost $5,000 in damages.
In October that year, another elderly man was allegedly caught keying a Tesla at an Adelaide shopping centre.
In 2024, an elderly man was caught on camera brazenly “keying” a parked car in a busy Melbourne shopping centre.
