BYD Sealion 5 DM Full Review -A Better Buy Than the Atto 2 DMi at 1.268M?

The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i was BYD’s most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV in the Philippines, currently priced at ₱1,268,000. But with the newer BYD Atto 2 DM-i now in the lineup, is the Sealion 5 still worth your money?

In this review, I take a closer look at the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i, including its real-world EV range, city energy consumption, hybrid fuel economy, performance, comfort, interior quality, and overall driving experience.

The Sealion 5 sits between the Atto 2 DM-i and the larger BYD Sealion 6 DM-i, but its positioning is a little unusual. On paper, the Atto 2 can actually offer more technology in some areas, while the Sealion 6 gives you more range and features. But after driving all three, the Sealion 5 has some advantages that aren’t immediately obvious from the spec sheet.

With its 12.96 kWh battery, 71 km NEDC EV range, 300 Nm of torque, and refined driving experience, the Sealion 5 makes an interesting case for buyers looking for a practical plug-in hybrid crossover without spending Sealion 6 money.

I also test what the Sealion 5 is like to use as a daily city PHEV, including driving in EV mode and running it as a conventional hybrid when charging isn’t convenient.

Is the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i worth ₱1.268 million? Let’s find out.
