Eligible Coloradans can once again apply for electric bicycle rebates for the first time since early 2025, thanks to new funding for the 2026 fiscal year.
The rebates will be relaunching on Aug. 24, according to a Thursday news release from Gov. Jared Polis and the Colorado Energy Office. Rebates will be available to people living in Colorado with a household income at or below 80% of the area median income in their county. The standard rebate will be worth $1,000, with extra rebate savings available for e-cargo bike and adaptive e-bike purchases.
The e-bike rebate initiative was initially open from Summer 2023 through Spring 2025, when funding was fully used up. The rebates helped nearly 8,000 Coloradans save more than $9.75 million on e-bike purchases, according to the release. Of those who received a rebate, 89% said they would not have bought an e-bike without one.
With a total of $3 million in funding from the Community Access Enterprise for the current fiscal year, the Colorado Energy Office plans to provide point-of-sale rebates for qualifying e-bike purchases to more than 2,800 Coloradans over the next year. This funding creates an ongoing funding stream to support rebates going forward, the release states.
“Colorado is committed to reducing pollution from the transportation sector with a holistic approach that makes zero-emission technologies such as e-bikes a viable option for day to day travel,” Colorado Energy Office Executive Director Will Toor said in the release. The office estimates that e-bike rebates helped recipients avoid annual emissions equivalent to 8.85 million miles driven in a traditional gas-powered car between 2023 and 2025.
Registration for e-bike rebates will open on a quarterly basis over the next year, with each application round lasting one week at a time. The first round will open Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. and close Aug. 31 at noon. Eligible registrants will be selected at random.
