California is launching a new incentive program that offers eligible car buyers up to $3,500 toward the purchase of a zero-emission vehicle.
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the “My First EV Program” Friday at Oakland’s Bridge Yard facility, a historic site that once housed streetcars in the 1940s.
Under the program, 13 automakers are matching the state’s $135 million investment to help more Californians get behind the wheel of zero-emission vehicles.
Newsom and California Air Resources Board leaders said the initiative is designed to improve public health while supporting the state’s economy and accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation.
