Jaecoo 7 – Have We All Gone Mad?
Howard Ritchie finally gets behind the wheel of the phenomenon that is the Jaecoo 7 SHS…these are his FIRST impressions over a very short experience.
A car nobody grew up dreaming about owning has somehow become one of the biggest talking points in the UK. One minute people were asking “what on earth is that?” and the next there seemed to be 7 on every street.
So what is going on?
The Jaecoo 7 SHS is a clever hybrid, phev and petrol with a huge amount of kit for around £35,000: plug-in hybrid technology, up to 56 miles of electric driving, a claimed 795-mile range, a 7-year warranty, 8 years on battery, and the kind of interior features you would normally expect from something much more expensive. But you know all this.
The question is… is it genuinely a brilliant new chapter for Chinese cars, or are there things buyers need to think about before doing it.
In this video, Howard looks at everything from the driving experience and comfort to the technology, practicality, ownership concerns, and why this car has become such a phenomenon.
Because whether you love it or hate it, something very interesting is happening with the Jaecoo 7.

Feels better to drive than the Omoda.
Very mild one pedal drive only, no full stopping.
Has a better audio system and nicer door shutting sound than Omoda.
A bit noisy on dual carriageways – silent in city.
Lovely seat.
Silent operating round town.
Better Interface than Xpeng and Omoda, so far.
Some research on customer experience, even if not genuine were concerning.
Great steering feel.
Cool cameras – very Polestar.
Not very easy to operate adaptive auto cruise!
Looks amazing from some angles, not sure on others.
Unusual looking wheels.
Wonderful font choices.
No annoying noises or songs.
Lots of good kit, no silly gimmicks.
Cool interior lights at night.
Feels more expensive to drive than it costs.
