Many buyers are now familiar with BYD’s Super DM-i system, thanks to the popularity of passenger cars like the Sealion 6 DM-i and the Seal 5 DM-i. For off-road use, however, this powertrain takes on another form: the DMO system, which is found on the BYD Shark 6 pickup truck.
Much like the DM-i version, DMO has a gasoline-fed engine that acts as a generator to top up the Blade battery on the go. For this iteration, however, the engine is turbocharged for even more performance, and there are dual motors driving all four wheels for unfailing grip on difficult terrain. Speaking of terrain, the Shark 6 DMO can handle any road condition thanks to six modes via its Multi-Terrain Mode Optimization feature and a cell-to-body structure that integrates the battery into the ladder-frame chassis.
Aside from delivering performance on and off the road, the Shark 6 DMO also adds more value to pickup ownership with much lower running and maintenance costs versus traditional diesel-powered trucks.
