MILFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – A 12-year-old boy riding an electric bicycle was struck by a car on Welchs Point Road in Milford late Sunday morning, according to police.

Officers responded to the area of Welchs Point Road and Midwood Road around 11:45 a.m. for a report of an accident between a bike and a car. It was determined that the car struck the rear of an e-bike that was traveling in the same direction.

Officials say the driver of the car, later identified as 60-year-old Robert Norden, was arrested for operating under the influence after failing a field sobriety test.

The boy driving the e-bike was taken to a nearby hospital for life-threatening injuries. His current condition is unknown.

A portion of Welchs Point Road was closed while police investigated the scene, and the road has since re-opened.
