MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) -With the annual Cycle to the Summit event coming up, one Manitou Springs bike shop is teaming up to encourage participation while supporting local businesses.
Manitou E-Bike Company is partnering with e-bike maker Velotric and event organizers ahead of the Aug. 8 ride up Pikes Peak, giving community members the chance to win a Velotric Summit 2 e-bike valued at about $2,100.
Brady Miller, an employee at Manitou E-Bike Company, is taking up the same model that’s being given away.
“I’m just a local guy who loves to bike,” Miller said.
Miller will be among the hundreds of cyclists taking on the trek.
“Pikes Peak is one heck of a climb,” Miller said. “For those who necessarily couldn’t do that on a regular bike, an e-bike gives them an opportunity to experience that on a bike.”
Gregory Cobble, owner of Manitou E-bike Company, says the giveaway came together after representatives from Velotric visited his shop and learned about the annual ride.
“We had our Velotric team out here about a month ago,” said Cobble. “They heard about the ride … and having a bike called the Summit, they really wanted to get involved.”
Between now and Aug. 3, anyone who visits Manitou E-Bikes can enter to win the Velotric Summit 2. Visitors who take a test ride on any Velotric bike will receive two entries into the drawing.
Cobble says events like Cycle to the Summit have an impact beyond the race itself.
“When events come to town like this, it’s good for all of the Springs,” he said. “It’s good for all local businesses because it just brings more people here.”
Cycle to the Summit takes place Aug. 8. Riders can also register for the event at Manitou E-bike Company through the end of the day Friday, Aug. 7.
