Ferrari Luce Sold Out: The EV Everyone Hated Hit Its 2026 Target in 8 Weeks
Ferrari has reportedly hit its entire 2026 sales target for the Ferrari Luce, its first production electric car, roughly eight weeks after the car’s public debut in Rome on May 25. The Financial Times, citing two people with knowledge of the matter, reports Ferrari quietly set a target of just under 500 units for 2026 and cleared it by early July. Reuters followed the report. Ferrari has declined to comment.
The reaction to the Luce was one of the harshest in recent memory. The four-door, five-seat electric Ferrari was styled in partnership with LoveFrom, the design studio founded by former Apple designers Jony Ive and Marc Newson, and the backlash was immediate enough that Ferrari’s stock fell in the session after the reveal. Former Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo suggested the company should take the prancing horse badge off it. Ferrari’s global marketing director Emanuele Carando later said the company was surprised by the magnitude of the response.
The demand told a different story. When the Luce went on sale in China in late June from 3.988 million yuan, roughly $589,000, the 88-unit allocation was gone almost instantly. Sources cited by the FT point to strong demand in China alongside interest from US technology entrepreneurs. Ferrari also reportedly instructed dealers not to pressure existing combustion-car collectors into switching, targeting genuinely new clients instead.
The car itself is serious hardware: four independent electric motors making more than 1,000 hp, a 122 kWh battery on an 880-volt architecture, 350 kW charging, over 330 miles of claimed range, and 0-62 mph in about 2.5 seconds. Pricing starts at 550,000 euros, roughly $630,000, making it the most expensive series-production EV on sale. Ferrari’s longer-term goal is around 2,500 Luce units by 2030, roughly 600 per year, against total company sales of under 14,000 cars in 2025.
Not a single Luce has been delivered yet.
