The 100,000 UK sales milestone shows how fast a newcomer can scale when rivals took decades to reach the same number

BYD has passed its 100,000 UK sales milestone, just over three years after its March 2023 launch with the Atto 3. The New Energy Vehicle manufacturer’s range has since grown from one model to 10, spanning fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

More than a third of those registrations, 37,995 vehicles, came in the first half of 2026 alone, as BYD’s UK retail network expanded from five sites to 143. Recent additions include the Dolphin Surf compact hatchback, the 530PS Sealion 7 SUV-coupe and a growing line of DM-i plug-in hybrids led by the Seal U.

Bono Ge, Country Manager for BYD UK, said the milestone reflected trust built with 100,000 owners and their families, and pointed to continued investment in the dealer network. He said BYD plans to expand further with the Dolphin G, Shark and Ti 7 models, alongside Denza-branded vehicles including the Z, D9, Bao 5 and Z9 GT.

Ge also pointed to new charging technology BYD is bringing to the UK to support faster electric vehicle top-ups. The milestone underscores how quickly BYD has scaled in a market where established brands have historically taken decades to reach similar registration numbers.
