Tesla is finally selling a bicycle, something the company’s fans have apparently been speculating about excitedly for years. This bike, however, is not an e-bike and is not for adults. It’s a toddler balance bike.
The $225 “Balance Bike for Kids” has a silver and black design, complete with Tesla branding, and actually looks pretty cool, not that most toddlers care about that. The seat has five adjustable levels to accommodate kids ages 2 to 5, as long as they come in under the 77-pound weight limit. The recommended weight limit is only 66 pounds, so I guess you roll the dice if you have a big kid.
As the bike is a balance bike, not only is it not an e-bike, it has no pedals or drivetrain of any kind. The price point is not completely out of line when compared to higher-end balance bikes. However, as someone who went from a Big Wheel to a big kid bike, I find the concept kind of silly, especially since you can just take the pedals off a regular bike and voilà — balance bike.
The bike sold out immediately, but you can sign up to be notified when it is back in stock if your kid really needs a pedal-free bike with a Tesla logo on it.
