I sat down for a relaxed Q&A with Kyle and ended up sharing the story of how I became an EV mechanic – from my sketchy high school motorcycle conversion to studying mechanical engineering at Oregon State, building fast-charger kits at Quick Charge Power (QC Charge), and eventually specializing in high-voltage EV diagnostics. I explain what drew me to powertrains and battery systems, who inspires me (Watch Wes Work, South Main Auto Repair, and Benjamin Nelson), and why filming sometimes helps – and sometimes gets in the way of – real diagnostics.
