Segway has been in the mobility business for years, but electric bikes are new territory for them, and the MUXI is what happens when a technology company builds a utility ebike instead of a bike brand doing it. It’s a compact cargo ebike at $1,699 with a 750W direct-drive rear hub motor, a 48V 717Wh removable battery tucked low in the frame, 20 x 3.0 inch tires on mag wheels, hydraulic disc brakes, and a single-speed drivetrain, and it sits in a corner of the utility ebike market that’s getting crowded fast with short-tail haulers. In this review we go through the full walkaround, every button on that game-controller-style pad, the display screens and the Segway app, then take it out for throttle and pedal assist testing, our big hill climb, the brakes, the rearview radar, hill descent control, hill start assist, kinetic energy recovery, and turn-by-turn navigation before wrapping up with the pros and cons.
