A fatal crash involving a Tesla and a moped scooter shut down major intersections in St. Augustine Wednesday night, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. July 8 to the intersection of State Road 16 and U.S. 1 South after the crash was reported.
The Tesla caught fire after the collision, officials said.
A person on the scooter died at the scene and another person was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The intersections of State Road 16 and U.S. 1 and State Road 16 and Lewis Speedway were shut down in all directions following the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
