VISALIA, Calif. (FOX26) — Two electric bikes were towed, and multiple citations were given out during a recent bicycle and pedestrian safety operation in Visalia.

The Visalia Police Department says the operation focuses on improving road safety.

Unsafe riding continues to be a concern, including riders running stop signs and traffic signals, speeding through neighborhoods, riding without helmets, and modifying e-bikes to exceed legal speed limits.2 e-bikes towed, multiple citations given out during safety operation in Visalia (Photo: Visalia Police Department)

The department reminds riders that electric motorcycles and mopeds are considered motor vehicles and must comply with all requirements including licensing, registration, and insurance requirements.

Devices without pedals are not considered e-bikes.

Parents should verify what their child is riding, what it is classified as, and make sure all legal and safety requirements are followed.

Our goal is education, enforcement, and safety while helping prevent crashes, injuries, and the illegal operation of motor vehicles.
