PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Panama City Beach could soon have new rules for e-bikes.

Mayor Stuart Tettemer says at the next city council meeting, officials will consider options to better regulate them in the name of public safety.

Council members are expected to discuss where e-bikes should—and should not—be allowed, including certain sidewalks, along with possible speed limits.

Tettemer says there have been incidents involving unsafe riding in the area.

Right now, the city doesn’t have specific regulations on e-bikes—so he says they’re asking for public input before moving forward.

“We want to hear from you, we’re not going to be considering an ordinance, we’re going to be discussing what would be in an ordinance at the next meeting, but please reach out to us, send us an email, tell us where you like to ride, if you like to ride, tell us if you had a negative interaction with an e-bike, where that happened, just help give us some color so we can make good legislation on this,” said Tettemer.

Mayor Stuart Tettemer says this discussion comes as senate bill 382 heads to the governor’s desk—a measure that would set new statewide requirements for e-bike use in Florida.
