MG is preparing a new premium SUV for the Indian market, and the model has now been spotted testing multiple times near the company’s Halol plant in Gujarat.
The upcoming SUV is expected to be based on the Wuling Starlight 560 sold overseas and could arrive in India with MG branding.
Interestingly, this is the second time the SUV has been seen testing near the Halol facility, with temporary GJ 17 registration plates confirming its connection to MG’s India operations.
Large 3-Row SUV for Families
The new MG SUV is expected to be a three-row model with dimensions close to the MG Hector Plus.
Even under heavy camouflage, the SUV appears to have a large and practical shape with an MPV-like side profile. The rear section has also been partially revealed, showing connected styling elements between the tail lamps and front DRLs.
Reports suggest the SUV could eventually replace the Hector Plus in MG’s India lineup.

Modern Design and Feature List
The upcoming SUV is expected to come with a modern design and several premium features.
Exterior highlights may include all-LED lighting, roof rails, skid plates, split tail lamps, and dual-tone 18-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the SUV is likely to feature a premium cabin with leatherette upholstery, a two-spoke steering wheel, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless connectivity, and a digital instrument display.
MG is expected to focus heavily on comfort, practicality, and technology with this new model.
EV and Plug-In Hybrid Options Likely
One of the biggest highlights of the new MG SUV could be its electrified powertrain options.
The India-spec version is expected to get both electric and plug-in hybrid variants.
The EV version may use the same 134 bhp and 200 Nm electric motor seen in the MG Windsor EV. This setup could be paired with a 56.7kWh battery pack.
The plug-in hybrid version is expected to combine a petrol engine with a 20.5kWh Shenlian LFP battery pack. The combined output is likely to be around 194 bhp and 230 Nm.
Compared to the current Hector Plus, which produces 141 bhp and 250 Nm from its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, the new SUV could offer a more modern and efficient setup.

Expected Price and Launch Timeline
Internationally, the Starlight 560 is priced in the Rs 21 lakh to Rs 25 lakh range.
If launched in India around a similar price point, the SUV could sit above the Hector Plus and target buyers looking for a premium family SUV with EV technology.
MG is expected to launch the SUV sometime in the first half of the current calendar year.
