Electric vehicle company NUUK mobility is expanding a battery-swapping solution for its light electric fleets nationwide, following a successful pilot in Madrid. The system allows NUUK riders to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in under a minute, effectively eliminating downtime and giving electric delivery motorcycles what the company describes as unlimited range.

The infrastructure centers on swapping cabinets capable of holding up to nine batteries, positioned at outside select Burger King® España restaurants, a strategic partner of NUUK mobility. After proving the concept in Madrid, NUUK has begun installations in Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Granada, and Bilbao, with a target of at least 50 units deployed by the end of the year. The company has also outlined a longer-term plan covering more than 200 locations nationally, selected according to operational demand in each area. At scale, the network is expected to handle around 1,500 battery swaps per day.

A key operational finding from the Madrid pilot was that by removing charging stops from the equation, a single motorcycle could be used across three consecutive shifts with three different riders, transforming what is typically a limited asset into a continuously running one.

The technology behind the cabinets was developed with Vmoto, NUUK’s hardware partner, and is managed through a dedicated app. Riders use a QR code to unlock the relevant compartment, deposit their flat battery, and retrieve a charged one. The cabinets will run on solar energy, in line with a sustainability commitment from the network’s host partner.

The battery-swapping infrastructure is integrated directly into NUUK’s vehicle leasing model, combining it with fleet connectivity, maintenance, roadside assistance, and logistics support. The company says the all-in-one approach is attracting growing interest from last-mile delivery operators looking for a complete operational solution.
