A 14-year-old riding an electronic scooter was seriously injured after a crash in Fresno.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the incident at 5:30 p.m. near Mayfair Drive and Weldon Avenue.
CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said a 12-year-old girl was riding behind the victim as the two traveled north on Mayfair Drive approaching Weldon Avenue.
Salas said the 14-year-old failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection directly in front of a westbound Dodge pickup truck, which did not have a stop sign (two-way controlled intersection).
Salas said the pickup struck the juvenile rider, ejecting her from the e-scooter.
Neighbors called 911 and rendered aid until emergency crews arrived.
Salas said the 14-year-old was taken to a hospital with major injuries.
According to CHP, neither rider wore a helmet.
The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities said DUI is not suspected.
