Tesla Inc. is recalling more than 200,000 electric vehicles because of a rearview camera software issue and another 173 Cybertrucks over concerns that wheel components could fail and increase crash risks.

The larger recall affects 218,868 Model Y, Model S, Model X and Model 3 vehicles. Tesla said the rearview camera image may appear blank for up to 11 seconds when the vehicle is shifted into reverse after the car starts.

Recall centers on camera failure

The recall arrives as Tesla looks to grow its fleet of robotaxis, which rely on camera-only systems, and recently celebrated a milestone for its driver assistance software, Full Self-Driving, after reaching 10 billion miles of training data

Notably, the loss of the rearview camera image resulting in the recall specifically affected vehicles with outdated hardware known as Hardware 3, which has been at the center of a class-action lawsuit brought by owners who say they were misled about the vehicle’s self-driving capabilities.

On a recent call with investors, CEO Elon Musk acknowledged that Hardware 3 doesn’t have the capability of running an unsupervised version of Full Self-Driving. He pitched using “micro factories” in major U.S. metro areas to upgrade such vehicles with a new computer and new cameras.

Meanwhile, the recall report noted that loss of the rearview camera image may affect the driver’s view, increasing the risk of a crash. In April, affected customers received over-the-air software updates that corrected the camera lag.

Cybertrucks recalled over brake rotors

Tesla is also recalling 173 Cybertrucks because cracking in the rotor could cause the wheel stud to separate from the wheel hub, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.

It’s the latest recall on a growing list of Cybertrucks in need of a remedy. Through 2025 alone, nearly 116,000 Cybertrucks were subject to recalls, according to an analysis of National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data.

The newest recall includes model year 2024-2026 Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels. In its report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that rough roads and cornering may strain the stud hole in the wheel rotor causing cracks to form and with continued driving the wheel stud could eventually separate from the wheel hub.

The newest recall includes 2024-2026 Cybertrucks with 18-inch steel wheels. Federal regulators said rough roads and cornering could crack parts of the wheel assembly, potentially causing the wheel stud to separate from the hub.

Tesla did not respond to a request for comment on the recent recalls. Musk posted about the Cybertruck on X on Thursday, writing, “only when you drive the Cybertruck do you realize how incredible it is: a bulletproof tank moves like a million dollar sports car!”

Tesla is not aware of any accidents, fatalities or injuries related to either of the problems in the above recalls, a report by federal regulators noted.

On affected Cybertrucks, Tesla will replace the front and rear brake rotors, hubs, and lug nuts with more durable ones at no cost to vehicle owners.

The manufacturer’s recall number is SB-26-33-003. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
