Leapmotor D19 2027 review: New 3-row family SUV offers plug-in hybrid & EV options to outgun Kia EV9
Andrew Chesterton travels to China for an international preview of the 2027 Leapmotor D19. This upper-large SUV measures over 5.2 metres long and arrives as a flagship challenger to the Kia EV9, Volvo EX90 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. The video examines the bold exterior design and the versatile six- or seven-seat cabin layouts tailored for Australian families.
The technical deep dive covers both the battery electric and extended-range hybrid powertrains. We test the 115kWh battery in the BEV and the record-breaking 80.3kWh battery in the EREV which provides up to 500km of electric-only range. Andrew evaluates the 1000V architecture and the tri-motor AWD system producing a massive 540kW of power.
On-road impressions focus on the dual-chamber air suspension and the extensive suite of 28 assisted driving sensors. Practicality is a major focus with an assessment of the 337-litre boot space and the high-tech interior featuring a 17.3-inch central media screen. This review determines if the D19 can deliver the value and performance needed to succeed in the local market.
