Both JAC and Chery will launch their new plug-in hybrid utes in 2026, however, the JAC will feature a more ‘traditional’ turbo-petrol engine while the Chery KP31 (name to be confirmed) will initially be offered with a segment-first turbo-diesel plug-in hybrid.
Will they take on the BYD Shark 6 or go for the big boys, including the Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger? The early specs suggest these will be looking to swipe sales from both, by offering hardcore off-road credentials with front and rear diff locks, as well as 3500kg towing capacity and 1000kg payload, while offering advanced technology with electric driving capability and big touch-screens inside.
The JAC Hunter PHEV is launching in mid-2026 while the Chery KP31 is scheduled to arrive by the end of 2026.
