I wanted to share something truly special that I’m currently documenting. As someone who started my career as a car mechanic in Germany working on these old air-cooled engines, I was thrilled when the owner asked me to help showcase this unique setup to the community. Seeing a duo like this still brings a massive smile to my face.
This is a 1968 Volkswagen T2a Deluxe Early Bay. It’s been in the same hands for 11 years and it’s a beautiful mix of honest patina and careful restoration. It’s running a 1600cc single-port industrial engine and sounds incredible thanks to the CSP Python exhaust system. Inside, it’s got that classic Rock & Roll bed—perfect for a vintage camping escape.
But the real 'unicorn' is what’s behind it: A 1968 vintage caravan. It was built as a school project in the 60s, inspired by the famous Yvonne Mosterd designs. Only three were ever made, and this is believed to be the only one left in existence. Walking inside feels like a time machine—solid wood interior, original gas stove, and that pure 60s/70s atmosphere. No veneer, just real craftsmanship.
It’s a rare piece of European camping history. What do you guys think? Is there anything cooler than a matching '68 set for the open road?
P.S. I have a great video of the engine running so you can hear that Python exhaust in action. If you’re interested in seeing/hearing it, just shoot me a DM and I’ll be happy to share the link with you.
