With 11.9%, Zug has the most electric cars in Switzerland

The cantons of Zurich, with 7.0 percent, and Lucerne, with 5.8 percent, lag significantly behind.
In the canton of Zug, the percentage of electric cars is higher than anywhere else in Switzerland. According to new data from the online platform Energie Reporter, as well as Energie Schweiz and Geoimpact, 11.9 percent of registered vehicles there are fully electric, albinfo.ch reports.
The cantons of Zurich (7.0 percent) and Lucerne (5.8 percent) lag significantly behind. Geneva (3.8 percent), Jura and Ticino (3.8 percent each) have the lowest figures. Across the country, the average share of electric cars in the vehicle fleet is 5.5 percent.
Among newly registered cars, the share of electric vehicles is even higher: In the first quarter of 2026, they reached a market share of 21.5 percent – although this still leaves them behind plug-in hybrids and purely gasoline cars.
