My first car was a 1991 Jeep Comanche. 2.5L 4 banger, 5 speed, 2WD. Maybe 93k miles. I don’t even consider it my first car because I couldn’t hardly drive it. I was 17 and my dad kind of forced me into buying a manual. Being 5’10” with a long torso, this truck was hell to drive. Non-tilt wheel, head scrubbing the ceiling, and banging my leg against the door panel whenever I’d shift gears.

I traded it for the biggest POS I ever had and I regret ever trading it, as these Comanches shot up in value 6 months after I traded it.

I then had a 1988 Dodge D100 with a 318. Loved it, loved how it drove. But the Terminator Broccoli Injection™ left me stranded several times and it wouldn’t run properly unless you let it warm up ALL THE WAY. Of course, my dad could drive it and it wouldn’t act up at all. I then tried converting it to a carburetor and I’ll just say don’t do it. Buy a 1985 or older Dodge to start modifying. Too many transition year parts on an 87-90. I even tried to rebuild the transmission in classes but we ran out of time. I didn’t sell it until last year and I hope to never see this truck again.

On to the best vehicle I’ve ever owned: a 2004 Dodge Durango SLT AWD 4.7. Reliable, roomy, ran strong. But when gas shot up to $4/gallon a few years ago, I had to get rid of it. I miss it and regret ever trading it. It suited me perfect and I hope to find another someday. The Infinity sound system was the most fun sounding system I’ve ever heard in a car. Many firsts and many long trips were done in that car. Also had the best driving experience I’ve ever had in it. Traveling when I worked night shift. I was driving in the middle of nowhere Virginia at 3am in the morning while screaming Uptown Girl with the windows down at 55mph. That was my peak existence and I doubt I’ll ever hit that point again.

I traded for a 2007 Lincoln MKZ. Fun car to drive, not a fun car to work on. It gave me almost 30mpg on long trips and it got me through college. Can’t complain too much, right?… However, it took about $1200 worth of parts to sell it for $3200. It is so hard to work on and parts are so pricey. If you ever see one… only get it if it’s low mileage. It’s designed to hit 200k miles and fall apart. But the stereo is great and it’ll do 0-60 in 6 seconds flat! This car also gave me my first and only speeding ticket. Glad I got rid of it.

My current car is a 1995 Buick Century Limited 3.1. Slow, handles like a refrigerator on Jell-O wheels, and even rides like garbage for some reason. However, parts are cheap and everything wrong with it has been age related. I purchased it with a legit 36k miles and it has never left me stranded. It’s been a magnificent car for me and while it is nice… I long for a full sized car so bad.
