(WHTM) — Midstate police are alerting the public of the dangers that come from riding electric bikes and scooters.
“We’re definitely seeing an influx of younger kids and teenagers riding a variety of electric scooters and electric bikes on the road in the sidewalk,” said Lt. Alex Milletics with the Lower Allen Police Department. “We have had a few, unfortunately, a few collisions and obviously a ton of close calls. And then, you know, there’s various accidents where kids are falling off or going off sidewalks and getting hurt as well.”
This warning comes days after a deadly incident earlier this week in Lancaster County involving an e-bike rider.
“It’s important to remember that you also follow all of the same laws that the vehicles do,” said Ofc. Robert Neely with the Susquehanna Township Police Department. “So stop at stop signs, red lights. Make sure you’re in your lane so that way other vehicles also can see you as well.”
Neely told abc27 News some of these electric vehicles are not allowed on the roadway.
It basically comes down to the speed and motor.
The East Hempfield Police Department is still investigating that deady incident. Anyone with any information is asked to call them.
