In January, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced the end of the line for the vehicles that launched the brand. The Model S and Model X were about to set off into the sunset and Elon said that they were going to get “an honorable discharge.” Now the details have leaked about the two special editions that bring the run to a close, and it feels more like the two are getting a tiny pension and a cheap gold watch – along with a very large price tag.

Special Paint Just Like The Original

Fittingly for a Tesla, the news of the two run-out models leaked on Musk’s social media platform X. IGNeditor and Tesla podcast host Ryan McCaffery posted the details about the two new models, while pricing came from a user on a Tesla owner’s page.

The special touches start with Garnet Red paint. The color isn’t regularly available, but it is a throwback to the very first 1,000 Model S sedans delivered in the US, the 2012 Model S Signature. It’s a nice way to bookend the model.

A gold Tesla badge on the nose and a gold Plaid badge on the back are another highlight, and there’s more gold on the seat piping. The included carbon ceramic brakes get gold calipers on the S (but red on the Model X). Signature-logo door sills and a numbered dash plaque plus a special welcome lighting sequence help make it feel special.

There will be a Signature-specific set of 21-inch wheels for S and 22s for X. Both come with the Tesla Yoke steering, will have black mirror caps, and will include the Luxe package that includes free Supercharging, FSD (Supervised), and four years of service.

Gently used examples of the Tesla Model X have gone from accessible to downright affordable.

Tesla is only selling these cars by invitation. Select customers have gotten that invite giving them a shot at one of the Signature Series models. There will be 250 Model S and 100 Model X available, and they will all be the 1,020 horsepower Plaid versions.

These Will Be Some Very Expensive EVs

According to some owner group posts, the Model X will be priced at $159,420–that’s about $30,000 more than a standard Model X Plaid, even after its$15,000 price increase earlier this month. We’re surprised that it’s not $10,000 higher, letting Elon get in one last joke at $169,420.

Model S Signature pricing hasn’t leaked yet, but based on the X, it will come in around $5,000 less. $154,420 feels like the number the company would use.

Buyers will get more than just the EV. There will also be a special celebration event that’s set for May. It’s described as taking place at sunset, a play on the sunsetting of the model. No location has been named, but Tesla’s Fremont, California, factory at the assembly line for the vehicles seems like a solid guess. Tesla’s diner in Hollywood could also be a possibility.

Love It Or Hate It, The Tesla Model S Is One Of The Most Important Cars Ever Made

Few cars in history have had such a significant impact on the automotive industry as the Model S. Today, many OEMs have come to copy its innovations

There is still no news on a replacement for the two big Tesla models. Sales have dwindled as the two vehicles have aged, and they were bundled in with the Cybertruck in the “Other Models” line. Last quarter, Tesla delivered 16,130 vehicles between all three models. Last year, Tesla delivered just 50,850 units between the three.
