KFC Battery Revolution?? Pajero is BACK & Toyota’s Big Problem!

What if charging your EV took less time than ordering a Zinger burger? BYD just made that happen in China, and the numbers will make Australia’s charging network look embarrassing.

BYD has partnered with KFC to deploy 1500 kilowatt flash charging stations across 13,000 outlets in China, adding up to 2km of range per second using their second-generation blade battery. We’re talking flat to full in 9 minutes. Meanwhile, Australia’s fastest public chargers are sitting at 100kW. That gap is the story.

This is the week that reminded legacy brands exactly how much ground they are losing to BYD, GWM Ora, Zeekr, and the rest of the Chinese EV wave hitting Australian showrooms.

But that’s just the start. At the Melbourne Motor Show, Chinese electric car brands are rewriting the price war with EVs from $33,000 drive away, an IM LS9 luxury SUV gunning for the Range Rover, electric utes from BYD and JAC PHEV Hunter, and the Honda Prelude hybrid landing with 4,000 expressions of interest at $65,000.On top of that: the Toyota Celica is officially coming back after being killed off in 2006. BMW’s secret Project Rugged could finally give Range Rover and the Mercedes G-Class real competition. The Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series performance hybrid has been pushed to Q3, the Prado hybrid is essentially dead in Australia with sales down 46%, and the Mitsubishi Pajero is spotted testing on Melbourne streets with pre-orders opening September.
